Swapnopuron Welfare Society was founded in the year 2012. They undertake several socioeconomic development programmes in the village of Katakhali, an obscure village 80 kms from Kolkata. Swapnopuron’s flagship venture was a pre-primary school, which began with 10 children and has now grown to 140 children. Students are engaged in sports, recreation, science, art, theatre and extracurricular activities. Counselling is provided to parents and children to enhance their confidence.
Swapnopuron is now identifying opportunities to provide the women engaged in bidi making with alternative skills to set up micro-enterprises related to sewing and tailoring.
